Consultation session

It all starts with a free, no-commitment, no-pressure consultation session, where I sit down with you, talk through your current financial situation, and talk about what I can do to help.

Investment plan

Once you’ve decided to work with me, one option is for me to create a one-time investment plan for you. This is a document that outlines:

  • Recommended brokerage
  • Recommended investment vehicles (IRA, etc.)
  • Recommended asset allocation (“stock/bond split”)
  • Recommended actions for current and expected securities holdings, e.g. employer stock
  • Specific funds to purchase
  • Maintenance plan (including specific rebalancing instructions)
  • For those near retirement, disbursement plan

as well as the money to be saved — and/or risk to be avoided! — by following those recommendations. Price: $350.
(Note: These are recommendations, not demands; investing is (and should be) highly personal. If you love your brokerage or don’t feel comfortable with the allocation I recommend, I respect that; my goal is to educate and guide, not control.)

Investment Management

Alternately, if you prefer, I can manage your investments directly. This doesn’t mean I’ll randomly trade whatever stocks I feel like; rather, we’ll work together to create an investment plan per above, but once we have agreed to a plan and you have signed off on it, you leave the work of implementing and maintaining the plan to me. Once the plan is in place, if I feel that changes are necessary, I’ll send you a detailed description to sign off on before I implement it. In the industry parlance, I have non-discretionary control over your investments. This package includes:

  • Unlimited phone/e-mail access
  • Regular rebalancing
  • Regular status and performance updates
  • One complimentary session per year, where we go over and update your investment plan as necessary

Price: 0.9% of assets under management per year (minimum $500/yr), to be assessed and billed quarterly. This fee is negotiable, based on factors such as portfolio size.

You’ll need to go to a specialist if you want to:

  • File for bankruptcy
  • File your taxes
  • Get marital counseling
  • Plan your estate

What are your credentials?

I am a Registered Investment Advisor with the state of Texas; however, one lesson I’ve learned the hard way is that certifications and helpful financial advice don’t always go hand in hand. With that in mind, my financial report card may be found here. Also, I highly recommend you check out the Form ADV for any financial adviser you look to work with, as they are required by law to put in it any conflicts of interest or disciplinary actions that have been taken against them. Are you a fiduciary?

Yes. As a Registered Investment Advisor, I am held to the fiduciary standard: I am required by law to act in your best interest at all times.

Will you really give me my money back if I’m not satisfied? What’s the catch?

Yes, I will. The catch is that I’ll want a brief explanation of why you weren’t satisfied; if you feel the need to ask for a refund, then I clearly did something wrong, and I’ll want some insight on how to fix it!

What payment options do you accept?

Currently, I accept personal checks or cash. However, if enough clients ask for the ability to pay using debit or credit card, I’ll make it happen!
